ABOUT
We are a team of mechanical engineering students from San Francisco State University. This site is created with the purpose of documenting our senior design project. We are set to design a sunlight tracking, self charging robotic plant pot featuring irrigation system and obstacle avoidance function.

PLANT BOT
Our Plant Bot represents a significant bond between nature and technology. The goal of designing this plant bot is to bring users one step closer to a chore-free lifestyle. Users will be able to gain access to fresh food with the help of an energy efficient robotic device using natural sunlight.

OUR PRODUCT
Our Plant Bot is set out to be the most self-sufficient bot for all needs associated with gardening. Its functions include tracking the sunlight, charging itself using power provided by the attached solar panel, the ability to water the plant and avoid objects as it navigates. Upon successful self-caring, the plant will thrive to its fullest potential providing the users with fresh food grown right at home, with practices they can see and believe in. While taking care of a plant throughout its life, the user will be able to customize the length of time the plant needs to be under the sunlight or the amount of water it needs based on the plant that has been chosen. Once the vegetable or herb is planted we intend for our system to operate fully with no help from the user besides refilling the water supply from time to time.
FUNCTIONS
Fully powers the battery
Avoids objects within ½ meter radius
Tracks sunlight
Waters the plant

FROM A STUDENT PROJECT TO A MARKET PRODUCT
When it moves from a classroom project to a real market product, we will adapt it to include data acquisition which will be paired with an app for the purpose of monitoring and controlling the bot using mobile devices, such as turning power on and off. On top of that, an app for the purpose of the allowing customers to select the type of plant they want to grow. Once the plant type is chosen, the system will decide how much water and hours of sunlight the plant needs as well as choosing the preferred type of soil for the chosen plant. Essentially, customers can grow not only edible plants but also natural fragrant producing plants such as lavender. Yet, the perk is that it is a mobile device and can be thought of as a robotic pet making it more enjoyable for the user.
